Welcome to Athens, Wisconsin home of the Athens Tigers! Founded in 1952, this town is known for its shopping centers, its prestigious schools, and most of all, its athletes. The town has two elementary/middle schools, two public high schools, two private high schools and then its university. There is not any difference between the elementary/middle schools; there are just a lot of children in this huge town. Same with the public high schools, they even have the same amount of funding and great teachers. Athens prides itself as a city as hiring only the best teachers there is to offer, why? Because they pride themselves in producing some of the best and brightest minds of the century!
Of course, you cannot have private schools without having better teachers there then in the public ones. The worst part is, they not only charge you to teach the student there, but the student has to excel too. That’s right, in eighth grade all students take a standardized test, this test is basically the ACT of junior high and depending on their score on that test, they either don’t get an invitation to learn at one of the two private schools and have to attend public, or they get the invite, much like colleges. The only other way you can get into these private schools is by being the king of a sport, the more sports you are amazing at, the better a chance you have to get in. Now one rule stands that makes it a little bit easier, you can be drafted to private school from the public one from sports if they like what they see, and a constant A student can apply to be transferred, it’s a lot of red tape that way but at least it’s another shot to be elite. It gets worse though, every two months you are tested in these private schools, and at the end of the school year you take one really big test, these tests are weighted and if you don’t average a B grade or better, your ass is history. For the jocks and cheerleaders that get accepted it’s a little bit different, it depends on how well you cheer and how good you play, at the end of the year you are evaluated on your attitude and plays and if you don’t pass…there are plenty of new students coming up that are that much better then you. On a side note, if your mommy and daddy are willing to pay through their teeth a certain…bribe-like amount of money to get you in…then WELCOME TO THE CLUB JUNIOR WE ARE ALL SO GLAD YOU CHOSE OUR SCHOOL.
All this takes place in 2010, Obama is President and the recession is over. It is all one big competition, all the high schools play each other as well as out in their own divisions, in sports, all the stores try to have the biggest and best products as well as prices. Moreover, all the people in the town are devoted to their own school team to a point where they would do anything to keep them at the top. So that leaves us with one question for you…Are you willing to do what it takes?
